World day of AIDS

Hello everyone,

Since today is 1st of december, we needed to talk about an especific issue: HIV. Today is the world day of AIDS. We talked about this topic in our Zimbabwe project. Here we attach a link to the Medicos sin Fronteras article "Zimbabue: la dura lucha de las mujeres con VIH en zonas rurales".

WARNING! DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE!

In many poor countries sexual protection is not a developed topic. In Zimbabwe, 1.4 millions of people are HIV positive. According to the article "Zimbabue: la dura lucha de las mujeres con VIH en zonas rurales" by Doctors without a fronteer, most women are afraid to ask their partner to use condom: "I am afraid of my husband. He knows that I am HIV positive but he lives in denial. And he has threatened to kill me if I bring condoms home". In Zimbabwe, when a woman is suspicious that her husband might have HIV, if she goes to get tested and she is positive, her family will acuse her of bringing the disease to the family and they'll get her marked with hot metal.

Fun Zimbabwe Curiosities!

 Good afternoon!

Today we will be giving you some curiosities about Zimbabwe. Some of them are mindblowing!

o Did you know that although Zimbabwe is now one of the poorest places in Earth was once a very rich country? Incredible, right?

o Sadly, Zimbabwe has one of the lowest life expectancies in the world. Females are expected to live 58.7 years and males survive for 57.3 years, on average. (2016)

o Zimbabwe is suffering from a shortage of health care professionals.

o In Zimbabwe, there there is a strong belief that mermaids exist. In fact, these mythical creatures are often blamed for unfortunate events such as kidnapping, torture, and murder. Do you believe in mermaids?

As most men in the world try to shade their large tummies for flat ones, the opposite is true in Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans see pot bellies in men as a sign of success and wealth.

Hope you enjoyed all those interesting facts! Make sure to comment any suggestions for our blog entries and give like in our Instagram and blog posts! ;)
